SCRIPTURE VERSE
“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (Heb 4:16 NIV).

PERSONAL REFLECTION
God wants to interact with us daily. I often think of God as donning his overalls and meeting us where and when we need Him. Some years ago, I experienced God in this way. Having returned to the district where I had spent my childhood years, I attended an appointment within walking distance of my home. However, the meeting was delayed, and it was already dark by the time I had finished. As I set out on my trip back home, I approached an area that connected the two housing districts. It was a short twenty-five-foot stretch, but it was so dark I could not see my hands in front of my face. Faced with this dilemma, I cried out to God, and immediately, a light appeared at my feet, and I walked safely home. From that night, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path” (Ps 119:105) has taken on new meaning.

SCRIPTURE REFLECTION
Our confidence in approaching God results from an intimate relationship with Him, who is sovereign and wants to partner with us in life’s journey. He sees everything, and we have a high priest in His Son, Jesus Christ, who has experienced temptation like us and empathizes with our weaknesses (Heb 4:13–15).

In our Scripture verse, God is simply saying, “Look, I am here. Take from me in your daily walk. Nothing is too big or too small for us to handle when you approach Me confidently with your concerns.” Hallelujah! God be praised!

We can approach God much like we would seek urgent help from a reliable friend when we are in need. God does not want us to grapple with the world on our own. Indeed, He makes the power of His Spirit available to us to be His witnesses throughout the earth (Acts 1:8) and to maintain an effective line of communication with Him (Rom 8:26).

EXHORTATION
Friends, we must simply avail ourselves of what God has already provided us. We need Him, and He makes Himself available to us to access His unending supply of grace.

PRAYER
Our God, Father, and Friend, we approach You boldly, thanking You for availing Yourself to us. As we examine Your Word, may we recognize Your desire to be intimately involved in our earthly affairs. Open our eyes to walk closely with You and commune daily together. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
